5 Ways to Prevent the Summer Slide with Arco Iris

At Arco Iris Immersion School, we encourage our students to enjoy the summer months while still keeping their minds active. To avoid summer slide, we suggest a combination of engaging activities and consistent learning opportunities.

Here are five ways your child can enjoy their summer while continuing to learn at the same time.

1. Take a Field Trip

At our tuition-free charter school, we intentionally incorporate field trips into each grade's school year. From visiting the Nike World Headquarters to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, our students get to explore the world with hands-on experiences beyond the classroom.

This summer, visit a museum, a park, a historical site, or let your child lead you to one of the amazing spots Arco Iris Immersion School visits during the school year! It’s an opportunity to get inspired when you see something new.

2. Get Outside and Explore

Summer can feel like the Arco Iris Move-A-Thon, but summer stretches on for months. Encourage your child to get outside, move their body, and apply the skills that they have learned from physical education at Arco Iris. Our PE program at Arco Iris is designed to build skill, coordination, flexibility, and empower children through growth and learning. Get active!

3. Learn a New Skill

If your child attends Arco Iris Immersion School, you can check “learning a second language” off their summer list! But it’s never too early to learn a new skill. Help your child reinforce their rigorous skills they have learned throughout the school year at Arco Iris by learning something new! Keep your child’s daily mind sharp with educational activities, daily reading, and more!

4. Read

Make a commitment to read to your child every day. During the school year, we have the best library volunteers from our PTO that spend time with our students in our school library. Continue this wonderful school year habit by helping your child find a fun spot to read in or outside the house. Or check out the nearby Beaverton City Library that has a Kids Summer Reading Program.

5. Have Fun

Most importantly, have fun! We are counting down the days until August 26 when our doors open up for the 2024-25 school year. We can’t wait to see you! Check the calendar for more important dates.

We’re looking forward to seeing you here soon. By integrating these strategies into your child’s summer break, students can continue to learn and grow, setting them up for another successful year at Arco Iris Spanish Immersion School

Let's unlock your child's full potential together! Our Open Enrollment has closed, but you may still apply by visiting our website and completing the 2024-2025 application. Space is filled on a first come, first served basis. To learn more about Arco Iris, visit www.arcoirisschool.org or call us at (503) 372-6052.
