Building Strong Communities: Partnering with Families

At Arco Iris Spanish Immersion School (Arco Iris), we believe in community partnership. Research shows that students achieve more in school when their parents are involved in their education. This partnership is vital for student success, and we see firsthand that when schools and families work together, good things happen for our children. Without the support of our incredible families, we know our tuition-free K-5 school wouldn’t be as great as it is. From volunteering to community giving, here are some ways Arco Iris families can get involved.

Ways to Support our Mission

There are many ways for parents to partner with us at Arco Iris Spanish Immersion School. Our active and involved Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is the best place to start for parents interested in being involved in their child’s education. The PTO provides support to both school families and the school administration. Our new PTO President, Jillian Henss, has been taking the lead on our summer playdates and she is excited to share more information with families in the coming weeks.

Our PTO organizes a variety of volunteer opportunities and can assist in matching your skills and availability to the perfect role. Some parents love to be in school during the day and offer their time as a library volunteer, room parent, drop-off & pick-up supervisor or field trip chaperone. Outside of the regular school day, parents help to plan class parties, organize the yearly staff appreciation event and Move-a-Thon or even coach our Oregon Battle of the Books teams.

The Arco Iris Annual Auction is held every spring and provides a wonderful opportunity to lend support to our school. We had a great turnout at last year’s event at the Portland Golf Club, and can’t wait to start planning for our Spring 2025 Auction. In addition to the organization of our spring fundraiser, families can assist with or donate to the raffles, online auction, live auction, and special appeal. The funds we raise from this event go directly to filling the gap between public funding and the cost of providing an enriching educational experience for children.

We are also excited to share that Café (Coffee) with the Director is returning again for the 2024-25 school year. This is a great way to get to know other families, ask questions, or to hang out together during the first Friday of every month – we hope to see you there. We can’t wait to meet new students and see all returning students back in the building for Meet the Teacher on August 23rd.

The success of our children is our greatest collaboration. We are eternally thankful for the support of all of our families in lifting up the Arco Iris community. Interested in joining us? Arco Iris has a few spots left at our tuition-free, K-5 school for the 2024-25 school year.
