What time is it? Back to school time! We hope everyone enjoyed their summer break and are ready for a new school year. At our tuition-free public charter school, we are here to support the transition back to school. Make sure to read up on our latest Back to School Newsletter from our Director Jesús Urdiales. Then check out our list of five ways to prepare for heading back to the classroom.
First Day Worries?
Arco Iris Spanish Immersion teachers work hard to make the first day as worry and stress-free as possible. A helpful way to ease those worries is to discuss everyone’s hopes for the upcoming school year and ease any possible concerns or fears. If this is your child’s first year at Arco Iris, assure your child that they will be safe and welcome here.
Our Meet the Teacher will be held on August 23rd. This will be an opportunity for children to meet their teachers, see their classmates, drop off supplies and walk around the school before the 1st day.
Here are a few links that will help you prepare for the 2024-25 school year:
Prep Your Routine
Practicing now means more freedom later. If we prepare for our daily routine, we build productive habits, and our brains are free to focus on learning and building relationships at school. Lay out shoes and bookbags ahead of time, and make sure to review our calendar for first day information.
Pack a lunch now or wait until the morning? Setting up a routine is half the battle. We encourage students to bring a packed lunch as part of our Wellness program. We also have pre-purchased lunch options available from our partners Fresh n’ Local to provide students with delicious, healthy and nutritious meals. Our lunch program is pre-paid on a monthly basis and we offer free and reduced lunch for those who qualify.
Buenos Dias/Buenas Tardes
Do you have before and after school covered? Enrollment for our before and after school program Buenos Dias/Buenas Tardes (BDBT) is open until August 18, 2024. Students who participate in the Buenos Dias program can be dropped off at 7:00am and are provided a healthy snack and will be able to read, chat, and play games before school begins. Our afternoon program, Buenas Tardes, runs from the end of the school day until 5:30 p.m. All activities will be conducted in Spanish and will correspond to school themes, holidays and celebrations.
- Before School Care Drop off times: 7:00 am - 8:00 am
- After School Care Hours are from: 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Sleep
With the first day just around the corner, and excitement on the rise, we encourage our parents to start thinking ahead of what a sleep routine might look like for your family. Is it reading a book together, listening to an audiobook or calming music, having an electronic free evening, or moving up the time of dinner? Peaceful slumber makes for peaceful mornings. You can support your child’s brain power by starting to push up bedtime by a few minutes each night to prepare for an earlier wake-up call.
