School Board

About our School Board

The School Board is the policy-making body of our school.  It is responsible for providing an education program for our students.  To accomplish its role, the Board:

  • Employs and evaluates the Director of the school
  • Determines the long range direction and vision
  • Establishes policies that direct instructional and support programs
  • Approves the Annual Budget
  • Ensures that Board policies and priorities are implemented
  • Communicates and engages with the community
  • Approves contracts and agreements

School Board Meetings

The Arco Iris School Board meets monthly on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6:15pm at the school. School board meetings, working sessions, and special meetings are open to the public.  Agendas for meetings are posted within 24 hours of the meeting. Minutes are posted on this website.

Executive sessions are not public meetings, and are held for specific purposes as allowed under ORS 192.660. Executive Session may precede Board Meetings as needed.

Hearing from our families and our community is important to us. During the public comments section of the board meeting, the board’s role is to listen only. While we may ask clarifying questions from time to time, we will not be engaging in dialogue with folks making comments. When follow-up is warranted, that will usually be done through our Director.

As a reminder, we model the way for our children. Please keep your comments respectful, and do not personally identify staff or students by name, as this may violate HR and student privacy laws. Please keep your comments to 2 minutes per person. We only have an allotted amount of time for public comments per meeting.  Testimony will be first come, first served and rotated by topics in order to ensure multiple topics are heard.  Public comment time is the only opportunity during a board meeting for the public to speak.
